SmartBus Route Planned for Altona

20/12/08
SmartBus Altona Future Smartbus route 903 – Improvements in Altona Station and surrounding area planned prior to its introduction.

Improvements to bus services are underway in Altona as the Department of Transport and Vic Roads prepare for the introduction of the Smartbus.

Smartbus is a premium bus serice that provides more services, longer hours and connections along major arterial roads to train stations, tram lines, universities, hospitals, shopping centres and other activity centres.

Before a Smartbus service commences in Altona, improvements are made to ensure that buses have easier and safer access to passengers and passengers are provided with improved waiting areas.

Changes to Altona station and surrounding areas include the following;

  • Buses will travel south of the railway line into Blyth Street, Sargood Street and terminate at Railway Street South.

    This will require reversal of the one way traffic flow in Railway Street South between Sargood Street and Pier Street

  • Buses will no longer travel along the residential Bent Street

  • Parking along Railway Street South will change direction to suit the change in one way traffic flow

  • New passenger information displays providing real time information the arrival of the next Smartbus

  • Improved Street Lighting

  • Improvements will also benefit the existing bus route 415

Plans for these changes will be available for viewing at Hobsons Bay City Council and Altona Library.

If you have any queries about this upgrade please contact the Department of Transport on smart.bus@transport.vic.gov.au or call the Smartbus project team on 8688 1694
