Altona by Bike

Altona has a fantastic network of bike tracks that are kept well maintained, and are safe enough to bring your whole family.

The tracks stretch the entire length of the beach front, as well as covering the major parks in Altona and making their way to Cherry Lake.

The terrain is flat, and paths have minimal crossings with roads so that the traffic is kept well clear of the bike paths. And because the bike paths are properly sign posted, and are purpose built, they are also out of the way of pedestrians.

Bicycle Victoria's annual Around the Bay in a Day event, which incorporates the 42 kilometre Great Bay Ride, recently included a festival held in Logan Reserve, Altona.

For more information on bike events contact Bicycle Victoria at http://www.bv.com.au/

See this PDF for further detail on the bike paths locations.

Pocket transport and Bike maps: This pocket-sized brochure includes a detailed map with information about train lines and stations, bus routes and contact numbers for public transport, as well as information about local walking groups, cycling paths, shared off-road paths and other cycling information.

TravelSmart is an initiative funded by the federal government, state government and Hobsons Bay City Council which aims to promote the benefits of more sustainable modes of transport such as walking, cycling and catching public transport.

The map can be downloaded here as a PDF document (file is 4.5 MB - this is a large file)
