Justice of the Peace Signing Service

Since being introduced in 2007, the Justice of the Peace signing service has become a valued and highly appreciated service to the community.

Residents are advised that in 2010 the service will no longer be offered at the Altona Homestead, instead all Justice of the Peace signing services will now be held at the Altona Life Saving Pavilion on the Esplanade, Altona.

The original times have not been changed and are still offered from 11.00am until 2.00pm on Tuesdays.

Justices of the peace (JPs) are volunteers appointed by the Governor in Council who can witness official documents such as statutory declarations and affidavits. There are currently more than 4,500 JPs serving in Victoria .

For more information about Justice of the Peace roles and responcibilites, or if you would like to locate your nearest Justice of the Peace Officer, visit the Department of Justice website.

Sinbad is the people's hero, but the time has come for him to prove that while he can talk the talk, he can also walk the walk. With the hand of his true love, Princess Shaheen, as his motivation, Sinbad assembles his crew, Abu, Mustapha and Auntie Frank to once again battle the elements and the creatures of strange places.

With endless miles, and magical spells ahead of them, what will happen to Sinbad and his crew? Will he return home successful and marry Shaheen, or will Al Capone, the local gangster and all round bad guy thwart Sinbad's plans and marry the Princess himself? One thing is guaranteed though; this journey will have you laughing like it's 750AD Persia!

Sinbad is suitable for children and adults of all ages; comprising popular music, dance, and classic comedy. Book fast, as these shows sell out quickly!

TAKING IT TO THE STREETS

Taking it to the Streets is a one night only event including an art auction and the launch of a shipping container artwork at the Louis Joel Centre in Altona. On the 28th of August at 7:30pm Councillor Luba Grigorovitch will officially launch the artwork created on a shipping container by the Street SmART team in May this year.

The art auction will raise money to continue the Street SmART Program that has been offering opportunities to young people from Hobsons Bay for over a year. We provide free street art workshops to youth aiming to engage them in their community and build on their self-esteem and confidence. So far in 2009 the Street SmART group has painted two shipping containers at the Laverton Community Centre and the Louis Joel Community Arts Centre respectively, as well as being involved in the Blank Canvas art exhibition as a part of Art in Public Places

2009. The Street SmART group will also be exhibiting in the Sub12 exhibition program in September this year.

Taking it to the Streets has received overwhelming community support with many local artists donating their work to be auctioned. We will linocut prints and photography to some of the artworks created by the Street SmART workshop participants.

Local artists have donated artwork to the cause and the community will have the opportunity to purchase the artworks in the auction to be conducted by Barlow McEwan Tribe First National Real Estates Director, Scott Murdoch.

The following artists have generously donated artwork to be auctioned:

Mike Adey, Vladimir Bykovec, Elizabeth Causton, Katherine Dine, Paul Fowler, Vicki Graham, Serge Haidutschyk, Chelsea Hatherall, Larissa MacFarlane, Justin Tumilaar, and Karin Zeller, as well as our workshop participants.

People can pre-register for the auction by emailing katherinedine@optusnet.com.au for a registration form. Works can be viewed and registrations will also be taken on the night from 7:30-8:00pm, the auction then kicks off at 8pm.
