What makes Melbourne Special?

Jenny Sinclair author of "When We Think About Melbourne" takes us on a journey through our city's maps, music, art and literature in order to understand why we love Melbourne - how we live in it, talk about it, draw it, sing it and write it into being.

Come along and share your favourite images of Melbourne - bring a book or photograph and tell us about what it means to you.

Shopping with a Conscience - Supermarket Tours

We'll explore practical ways to help you in making more ethical choices and lighten your impact, so please bring $5 to spend on sustainable snacks.

  • What are the issues that reflect the true cost of the products we buy?
  • What are "best buys" for our health, our communities and our planet?
  • How can you find the most sustainable purchase amongst the options available?

Join Nick Ray from the Ethical Consumer Group to find out more about the products, companies and related issues that are part of your weekly supermarket shopping adventures. There will be time to share questions, experiences, and to feast on some positive alternatives.

Since being introduced in 2007, the Justice of the Peace signing service has become a valued and highly appreciated service to the community.

Residents are advised that in 2010 the service will no longer be offered at the Altona Homestead, instead all Justice of the Peace signing services will now be held at the Altona Life Saving Pavilion on the Esplanade, Altona.

The original times have not been changed and are still offered from 11.00am until 2.00pm on Tuesdays.

Justices of the peace (JPs) are volunteers appointed by the Governor in Council who can witness official documents such as statutory declarations and affidavits. There are currently more than 4,500 JPs serving in Victoria .

For more information about Justice of the Peace roles and responcibilites, or if you would like to locate your nearest Justice of the Peace Officer, visit the Department of Justice website.
