Getting to Altona by Public Transport

Trains: Altona is on the Werribee train line. From the City you can catch any Werribee train. Two stops service Altona - they are Altona, and Westona. Both are near the beach, however the Altona stop is right on the main shopping street. The stations are not manned, but are serviced by ticket machines which will dispense any needed ticket. Trains run every 15-20 minutes during the week, less frequently on weekends and public holidays. Both stations are in the metroplitan transport system Zone 1.

For more information visit the Met Link web site.

Buses: Bus routes 411 (to Footscray), 412 (also to Footscray) and 415 (from Williamstown to Laverton via Altona) operate in Altona. These are convenient services to help people get around the adjacent suburbs to Altona. As part of a Government initiative the local bus services are currently under review to improve their service.

Public Transport Map: A public transport map has been developed a Travel Smart Map.

The pocket-sized brochure includes a detailed map with information about train lines and stations, bus routes and contact numbers for public transport, as well as information about local walking groups, cycling paths, shared off-road paths and other cycling information.

TravelSmart is an initiative funded by the federal government, state government and Hobsons Bay City Council which aims to promote the benefits of more sustainable modes of transport such as walking, cycling and catching public transport.

The map can be downloaded here as a PDF document (file is 4.5 MB - this is a large file)
